Receive an introduction to the raised beadwork of the Haudenosaunee. It was Haudenasaunee (Iroquois) Métis that lead explorers from the Great Lakes, across the land and through the Athabasca Pass into New Caledonia (BC). Many of us have this Ancestral connection. In this workshop, you will bead a sample card of stitches that you can refer to as you continue to explore raised beadwork. Raised beadwork can be mixed with flat work for beautiful tactile effect.

Friday, July 20, 1:00-3:00pm Workshop Tent

Learn the techniques to make a five petal Métis rose, including beading closed circles and smooth lines. History of Métis beadwork will be shared, as well as what differentiates the art style. Some colour theory will be discussed. All supplies will be included to turn your beadwork into a business card holder. The focus of the workshop will be on learning various beading techniques and the amount of completion of the project will be dependant on the skill set of each participant. However, you will leave with the knowledge and supplies to complete the project on your own. 



  • your beading will be done on black Melton wool - a perfect textile for learning to bead!
